Spirit of Granby
The Granby Department of Recreation & Leisure Services, Granby Chamber of Commerce and Granby Lions are joining forces to present a short ceremony on Merchants Way and town-wide tree lighting on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 6PM. We would like to invite all the Granby businesses to light up a tree in front of or on the premises of their business.
The evening's events will begin on Merchant Street and will include a short presentation by the Town's First Selectman, the GCOC Chamber, and the Lions Club followed by a tree lighting at 6PM and music by the Granby HS Jazz Band and Kelly Lane's 4th and 5th grade chorus. In addition, there will be collection locations set up to collect food items for the food pantry and unwrapped toys for local families. After the event, approximately 6:15, participants will be encouraged to shop at participating businesses.
Our goal is celebrate the opening of the holiday season, promote the local businesses and restaurants, and support the community by collecting food and toys for those less fortunate. This event will be publicized through the papers, chamber of commerce, local PTOs, and more.
How to get involved:
- Businesses throughout the Granby are encouraged to participate by putting a small tree outside your business or in a store front
- At 6PM on Friday, December 3rd light up your tree (and every evening throughout the holidays). Please consider working with a local organization, artist, and/or school age group to decorate your tree. It would be a fun way for your business to reach out into the community.
- If you don't already have evening hours, consider staying open after 6:15. Those hours will be publicized to encourage business.
